Here’s a guide to some of the shows set to open in London next month (depending on government advice).
GHBoy, Charing Cross Theatre: set to open for previews on 3 December, Paul Harvard’s new play examines the misconception surrounding gay culture and promiscuity.
West End Musical Christmas, Palace Theatre: Why not get into the festive spirit and join some of your favourite West End stars including Ben Forster, Rachel John and Alice Fearn for a special concert. Taking place for six performances from 17-20 December, it is a chance to celebrate Christmas and musical theatre in one place.
The Dumb Waiter, Hampstead Theatre: Having originally premiered s part of Hampstead Theatre’s first ever season in 1960, Harold Pinter’s play returns to the Hampstead Theatre from 3 December until 16 January 2021. Directed by Alice Hamilton, the production is set to star Alec Newman and Shane Zaza.
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, Garrick Theatre: This Olivier Award-winning company will return to the West End from 7 December. The show takes audience’s suggestions for setting, musical styles, show title and more to create a unique show at every performance.
Dick Whittington, National Theatre: For one year only, pantomime is set to come to the National Theatre from 11 December. Taking place in the reconfigured Olivier Theatre, Jude Christian and Cariad Lloyd’s updated script is directed by Ned Bennett.
Potted Panto, Garrick Theatre: Why enjoy one pantomime when you can enjoy seven in 70 minutes thanks to this two handed show. Taking audiences on a pantomime adventure, Daniel Clarkson, Jefferson Turner and Richard Hurst’s show ensures plenty of laughs to get you into the festive spirit.
Alice in Streamingland, Phoenix Arts Club: This recently announced pantomime will take place at the popular cabaret venue from 5 December. The adult pantomime sees Alice following the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole into Interflixland, Disney C Minusland, and iPlayerland as she struggles to get home.
Six the Musical, Lyric Theatre: Fans of this immensely popular musical rejoice! Toby Marlowe and Lucy Moss’ musical based on the lives of Henry VIII’s six wives will be heading to the Lyric Theatre for a run from 5 December, before heading back to its permanent home at the Arts Theatre next March.
Pantoland, London Palladium: The show must go on! From 12 December the London Palladium’s annual all-star pantomime returns – if in a slightly different way to previous years. The starry cast is set to include: Elaine Paige, Julian Clary, Beverley Knight, Jac Yarrow and Charlie Stemp to name a few.
