Building up to the Olivier Awards 2020 – the virtual way https://ift.tt/31HeI5J

Who cares that there isn’t an official Red Carpet event at the Olivier Awards 2020 and the pre-recorded ceremony at the London Palladium is unlikely to have the same atmosphere as the ones we are used to, the broadcast on ITV tonight at 10.20pm (plus the pre-show special available on Official London Theatre’s YouTube channel from 9.30pm) gives us the opportunity to celebrate the theatre industry when its very essence is being threatened by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Do fill your glass, glam up and get ready to join host Jason Manford in saluting the winners and nominees as well as honouring some very special figures who have made significant contributions to the industry over the past 18 months.

Will the Best New Play award go to A Very Expensive Poison at The Old Vic, The Doctor at Almeida Theatre, Leopoldstadt at Wyndham’s Theatre or The Ocean At The End Of The Lane at the National Theatre? And which production will come out top in the Best New Musical category: & Juliet at Shaftesbury Theatre, Amélie The Musical at The Other Palace, Dear Evan Hansen at Noël Coward Theatre or Waitress at Adelphi Theatre? Not long to wait now.

Take a look at the social media build-up to the big night below:
